academic milestones

 

I earned a BA in translation and an MA in conference interpreting at the University of Vienna and a graduate degree and a doctorate in interpreting research at the University of Geneva. After my post-doc at Gerry Altmann's psycholinguistics lab at the University of York I returned to the University of Geneva where I was appointed Assistant Professor.

 

research interests

 

Ever since my training as a conference interpreter I have been interested in the cognitive processes involved in complex language processing tasks: language comprehension, language production, and most importantly, the simultaneous performance of both. One of the central themes that runs like a thread through my research to date is the phenomenon of anticipation.

 

 

preferred methods

 

In a (relatively young) field of research which so far has been explored mainly using corpus analysis and a wide range of performance measures I am partial to psychophysiological measurements and I am a firm believer in the benefit of an interdisciplinary approach.

 

 

aspirations

 

The long-term goal of my research efforts is a more comprehensive description of the cognitive architecture enabling anticipatory processes in an internally (i.e., resource-) limited and externally (i.e., data-) constrained task.
